GEneral Visitation Policies

What follows is general information regarding visitation at LCS Corrections Services, Inc. facilities. Family members and other authorized visitors should receive detailed visitation information from the offender. You may also contact the facility directly using the contact information on the facility information page, and you are strongly advised to do so before visiting if you have questions. Facilities often house offenders for more than one agency, and assigned visitation days and times may vary since offenders from different agencies are typically not mixed during visitation.

When an offender is booked into the facility, he/she is given a Visitation Form and an explanation of the visitation process. It is the offender's responsibility to supply to correct name, address, birth date, race, sex, Social Security number and driver's license number of all visitors. At that time, tentative visitation approval will be given to the offender’s parents, legal spouse, grandparents, siblings and children upon the request of the offender. Some preliminary verification of relationship may be required. Exceptions to this tentative approval must be approved by the warden or warden's designee and will be based upon legitimate security considerations.

Additional Visitation Forms may be obtained from the unit control center. It is the offender's responsibility to ensure that those forms are forwarded to any person he/she wishes to have placed on his/her visitor list. The forms must have the correct name, address, birth date, race, sex, Social Security number and driver's license number of the visitor. All proposed visitors will be checked for criminal history. Any person who has been convincted of a felony within the past five years or who is on probation or parole supervision more than two years without an intervening criminal record will be denied approval to visit. Any person who in the previous five years has been arrested on felony charges three or more times (regardless of disposition) shall be denied approval to visit, or approved visitation shall be revoked. However, these restrictions may be waived if the visitor is an identifiable parent, legal spouse, sibling, grandparent or child of the offender and the warden approves such visitation. In all cases, the final decision regarding visitation rests with the warden or warden's designee and will be made in the interests of facility security.

When an offender receives notification that he/she has a visitor, he/she will have 15 minutes to prepare and report to the visitation area.

RESTRICTIONS ON VISITATION

  1. An offender may refuse a visit.
  2. A person may be removed from the approved visitor list at his/her own request or at the request of the offender.
  3. Any person may be denied permission to visit during a disturbance of any kind at the facility.
  4. All visitation will be suspended during an emergency.
  5. A person may be on only one offender's visitor list, unless that person is an immediate family member of more than one offender housed at the facility.

PROOF OF IDENTITY

  1. All offenders (except minors) must have photo identification to visit an offender.
  2. All minors (under the age of 17) must be accompanied by an adult who is either a family member of the minor or the minor's legal guardian and who is on the approved visitor list.
  3. Exceptions to this policy will be made for minor spouses and emancipated minors; in either such case, proof of status must be provided.

VISITATION RULES

  1. Visitation hours are set by the warden. As previously noted, if multiple agencies house offenders at the facility, visitation for a given offender may be restricted to certain days and/or times. The offender can tell you his/her specified visitation hours, or you may contact the facility for information.
  2. Visitation is confined to the interior of the Visitation Room or as directed by the warden.
  3. Each offender is permitted two visits per month. Visitation frequency is set by the warden.
  4. Visitation hours may vary depending on the number of visitors on a particular day.
  5. Offenders are limited to three visitors per visit. Legal advisors and children under the age of 15 are not included in this limit.
  6. All offenders not on disciplinary lockdown status may have visitors as the schedule permits.
  7. Visitors must abide by all rules governing visitation. Offenders shall notify their visitors of the visiting hours and of all rules and regulations pertaining to visitation.
  8. Once the visitor has been processed and searched and has begun his/her visit with the offender, the visitor will not leave the visiting area, except to use the restroom. Prior to returning to the visiting room, the visitor must once again be searched. If the visitor leaves the visiting area for any other reason, the visit will be considered terminated and will count as a visit, regardless of the amount of time actually spent on the visit.
  9. No food items will be allowed into the visiting area at any time. This includes gum and candy (including breath mints). Soft drinks and food items may be purchased from the vending machines for consumption in the lobby area.

  16. Visitors must be seated across from the offender; visitors and offenders may not sit side-by-side, and visitors may not sit on the offender's lap. (However, children under the age of six may be held by the offender.) Contact between the offender and visitor will be limited to holding hands after the visit is initiated, and the hands must be on top of the table and visible at all times. Arrival and departure are the only times that hugging and kissing are permitted, and then only in a responsible manner.
  17. No packages, supplies, cigarettes, clothes, money orders, cash, personal checks or any other items may be brought to an offender or left at the facility for an offender—no exceptions! (Offenders may receive funds only through the mail and in the form of a money order, or via Internet transfer at those facilities where this service is available.) Money is considered contraband, and any visitor caught passing funds (in any form) to an offender will have his/her visitation privileges revoked and may be subject to criminal charges.
  18. Visitors who appear to have been consuming alcoholic beverages will not be admitted.

SPECIAL VISITS

A special visit may be granted only upon written request to the warden or warden's designee.

REVOCATION OF VISITATION PRIVILEGES

  2. Any person may be refused approval to visit an offender if the conduct of the visitor amounts to a violation of state and/or federal law, such as assault, battery, disturbing the peace, introduction or attempted introduction of contraband, lewd behavior, etc. Such removal may be temporary or permanent, depending upon the severity of the violation.

INFANTS AND CHILDREN

It is the responsibility of the visitor to exercise control over infants and children at all times. The parent of a crying infant or unruly child disturbing the surrounding visitors will be asked to terminate his/her visit. Children are never to be allowed to leave the visitation area alone.
