Our primary business activity is the management and operation of detention and correctional facilities. Our partner companies offer correctional facility design and construction services.
We currently operate eight facilities totaling over 5,500 beds in Alabama, Louisiana and Texas, employing over 900 staff members. Facility sizes range from three with over 1,000 beds to our smallest with 240 beds. Planned expansion in 2009 will increase total capacity to approximately 6,500 beds, and our existing facilities have the potential to total about 10,000 beds.
Our newest facility is the Coastal Bend Detention Center, located just outside of Corpus Christi in Robstown, Texas. The facility opened in December 2008 and can house over 1,000 offenders, with the potential for up to 2,500 beds with future expansions. Designed specifically to handle the numerous gang affiliations typically found in U.S. Marshals Service, Border Patrol and Immigration & Customs Enforcement offender populations, Coastal Bend boasts a mixture of 8-, 16-, and 48-person dormitories that allow extensive segregation of the population based on classification, gang affiliation or other criteria. The facility also has a total of 192 dual-use segregation cells.
Our operational experience covers a wide range of services including adult detention, corrections and work release, with extensive education and rehabilitation programs offered as needed. Present and past clients include the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Border Patrol, Immigration & Customs Enforcement, the Bureau of Prisons, the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections, the Alabama Department of Corrections, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the Vermont Department of Corrections, the Harris County, Texas jail system and numerous local agencies throughout Louisiana, Texas and Alabama. Our offender populations include both males and females in classifications ranging from minimum to maximum security.
LCS Corrections Services, Inc. has twin corporate offices, with most of the board of directors and the legal and finance functions residing in Clearwater, Florida, while the operations and business functions are housed in Lafayette, Louisiana. Our allied design and construction firms are also located in Lafayette. Since 1990, LCS Corrections Services, Inc. and our allied companies have developed over $130 million in correctional facilities and designed and built ten properties totaling over 5,000 beds.
We feel strongly that LCS, in cooperation with our allied companies, possesses a substantial advantage in its ability to consolidate the finance, design, construction and operation of correctional facilities within a single team, with a closely-knit and experienced group of professionals handling every step of the process, and each member of the team able to draw on the knowledge and experience of the others.
